DR SARAH SHEPPARD

Sarah is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years experience. She has worked in private practice in Adelaide since 2010, previously working in hospital settings. Sarah enjoys working with clients to assist them with struggles they are facing and is passionate about helping her clients achieve meaningful change in their life.  Sarah’s therapeutic approach is warm and collaborative, using evidence-based treatments sensitive to individuals’ needs.  She uses a variety of approaches in therapy, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and neuropsychotherapy.  Sarah has a particular interest in treating anxiety disorders.  She is also the Director of the Adelaide Anxiety & Phobia Clinic focussed on treating clients with anxiety disorders including specific phobias.  Sarah is a registered clinical psychologist and supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia, a member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS), and a Fellow of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society (FCCLP).

Marina is a warm and compassionate psychologist who has worked in public and community health settings as well as in the private sector for the past 10 years.  Marina has wide experience working with adolescents and adults and is passionate about helping people with mood, worry and distress problems, stemming from the past or more recent experiences.  Marina focuses on building a therapeutic relationship based on empathy, curiosity, openness, kindness and respect to help understand her client’s needs and work towards their goals. She brings a compassionate and collaborative approach to treatment, recognising individual’s strengths, experiences and skills to help them bring about change, growth and overcome challenges.  Marina has experience working with anxiety disorders, depression, relationship and interpersonal problems, adjustment issues, low self-esteem, grief and loss issues, sleep problems and trauma and uses a variety of evidence-based approaches to assist her in tailoring a treatment that will be a good fit for each client. Marina has trained in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and supportive counselling techniques as well as emotion focused and solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing and mindfulness techniques. Marina also has a background in the arts and and is interested in exploring creative abilities which can provide therapeutic value in helping people to enhance self-understanding and meaning in their lives.  Marina is Registered Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

MELISSA SHERMAN

Melissa is a Registered Psychologist and an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society (Assoc. MAPS) and a member of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.  Melissa draws on over 20 years of experience working in the mental health, education, counselling, and human resource management fields.  She has wide experience working with adolescents and adults.  Melissa is a passionate advocate for client-centred care and collaborative practice and values growing the therapeutic relationship through empathy, warmth, and compassion.   She strives to provide a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic space to allow clients to meet their therapeutic goals and achieve personal growth. Melissa is committed to providing evidence based therapies and works with clients using cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and schema therapy.

KIRSTY HARVEY

Clinical Psychologist

Kirsty is a clinical psychologist with over 17 years experience working in public and private mental health services. She has worked interstate in world-leading clinical programs and been involved in clinical trials delivering specialist interventions to youth with complex mental health issues. In private practice Kirsty works with adults with a diverse range of mental health and psychosocial issues. Kirsty brings warmth, authenticity and compassion to her work, and strongly values the role of the therapeutic relationship in promoting growth.  She tailors treatment to the individual and works collaboratively and flexibly, drawing from a range of theoretical approaches and evidence-based therapies including cognitive-behavioural, narrative, systemic, attachment, interpersonal, and mindfulness-based approaches (e.g. acceptance and commitment therapy). Kirsty has also specialised in cognitive analytic therapy and is an accredited practitioner with the Australian and New Zealand Association of Cognitive Analytic Therapy. As well as being a registered clinical psychologist and supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia, Kirsty is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS), and a fellow of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists (FCCLP).

Kirsty is only accepting new referrals through Adelaide Anxiety & Phobia Clinic at present.

UGGIE

Therapy Dog

Our practice has evolved to accommodate a therapy dog.  His name is Uggie, he’s a ten year old black Labrador and has been trained by the Royal Society for the Blind.  Uggie has beautiful qualities.  He’s highly obedient, very calm  and loving.  Uggie will be in the consulting room with you at your appointment with Sarah if you are comfortable with dogs.  He loves meeting new people, pats and cuddles.  He also likes to snooze in his comfy corner of the room!  Uggie is a valued member of the team here at Sheppard Psychology. 

RONNIE

Therapy Dog

Our newest addition to the team is Ronnie, a two year old golden retriever.  He has been trained and certified as a therapy dog by See Differently with the Royal Society for the Blind.  He’s very sweet, calm and loves people.  If you are comfortable with dogs, Ronnie will be with you at your appointment with Melissa.  He likes sitting at your feet, pats and relaxing on his bed.
