Sheppard Psychology strives to ensure all new clients are seen in a timely manner. Wait times are different for each member of our team. We will advise you of the wait time for your preferred psychologist and discuss alternative options as required. Please speak to our admin team to discuss your needs

The consultation fee is $289 (Clinical Psychologist) or $269 (Registered Psychologist). Fees are to be paid in full (EFTPOS or credit card) on the day of consultation.

You do not need a referral to book an appointment. However, if you would like to claim a rebate through Medicare you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan. You do not need a referral if you are using private health insurance.

Our psychologists are registered providers with Medicare. Please discuss with your GP about whether you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan which allows you to claim a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year (January-December). Often GPs prefer that you book a longer consultation for the assessment and preparation of a plan. You will need to bring your Mental Health Treatment Plan to your first appointment. After 6 sessions, a review with the referring doctor takes place. The doctor can then refer for additional sessions if required.

Private health insurance (with Psychology extras) may also cover psychology consultations, although the rebate will vary according to your cover/fund (check this with your private health fund). Please note that you are only able to claim a rebate for each consultation from either Medicare (with a Mental Health Treatment Plan) or your private health, not both. You do not need a referral if you are using private health insurance.

Your first appointment will involve meeting your psychologist and allowing them to get to know you and the difficulties you have been experiencing. We want to understand what your goals are and develop a treatment plan with you so that we can support you with the changes you want to bring to your life.

We value providing high quality treatment and will not compromise client care by practicing beyond the scope of our expertise. Should it become apparent during the assessment phase that we are not best placed to meet your treatment needs we will discuss this with you and do our best to provide you with more suitable referral options.

Sessions are 50 minutes in duration.
